Community Equals Power

In 2009, all I had was an idea. No people, resources or track record. My proposition was simple to say but highly complex to execute. How could we use the kinetic energy from footfall to help power cities and engage people with sustainability?

Eight years later, and we’ve delivered over 150 permanent and experiential activations in 30 countries. We’ve installed our award-winning technology right by the White House and in Europe’s busiest airport, and we’re about to launch in the heart of London’s West End.

We’re working with innovative brands from adidas to Formula E and Shell, in cities from China to Berlin. And we’ve done it with the support of an amazing group of people and organisations. I’m talking about the tech community, here in the UK.

According to the Tech Nation 2017 report, local tech industries attracted more than £6.8bn venture capital and private investment last year, making the UK Europe’s largest technology investment location. This growth is facilitated by a remarkable network of academic institutions, networks and investor groups, all supported by national and local government organisations.

At Pavegen we’ve received support at crucial times, enabling us to scale up, develop our technology and form vital partnerships with clients, suppliers and distributors. Every tech entrepreneur has their own story. For us, key partners have been an enlightened group of angel investors, the Mayor’s promotions agency London and Partners, participating in vital delegations Department for International Trade (DIT) and working with Tech London Advocates.

As an ambassador for London Tech Week this year, I’m really excited to be able to share my experiences with other entrepreneurs, and to contribute to a vital and growing community. During the week, we’ll be exhibiting our tech in the TechXLR8 exhibition space, and as part of Project Kairos. Pavegen’s CTO, Craig Webster, will be on a panel with Hyperloop and Starship Technologies. We look forward to meeting many of you over the next few days.

Exciting times for all of us. #LondonIsOpen
