Yesterday, Venturespring, the international venture development studio, in association with IBM, NatWest, Level39, and Tech.London was pleased to announce hedge fund platform, Edgefolio, as the winner of The Future of Finance Challenge.

Designed to inspire innovative new tech solutions to solve problems within the finance industry, The Future of Finance Challenge offered participants the opportunity to build a prototype app on IBM Bluemix, for a chance to win £750,000 of investment plus an additional £2,000 in business acceleration support.

Out of hundreds of applicants, twenty-six finalists were chosen, with a final five then selected to participate in yesterday’s Future of Finance Challenge Pitch Day including:

-Ernest: a smart chatbot that helps you form better financial habits

-Advicefront: an end-to-end financial advice platform that reinvents the way financial advisers help clients grow their money.

-So-Sure: a new approach to phone insurance allowing you & your friends to save.

-Saffe: a mobile payment app that uses facial recognition technology to make payments easier and more secure.

-Edgefolio: a hedge fund platform that connects investors & fund managers through data.

After being given seven minutes to pitch their concept, the companies were then judged by an expert panel from the venture capital and the finance industry including participants from IBM, NatWest, Level 39, Innovate UK, Transferewise, Octopus Investments, Angles Den, and more.

After being selected as the winner, Founder & CEO of Edgefolio, Léopold Gasteen, stated:

"I'm humbled to have won given the caliber of the companies we were up against. The panel was made up of smart & thoughtful industry insiders, who asked the most insightful and challenging of questions, plus the setting was super relaxed - so the experience was not all daunting, but instead intellectually stimulating.

The London Fintech ecosystem continues to thrive thanks to people like Cassie at Venturespring, who have made it their mission to put the super interesting people together in the right context."

This is the third in a series of innovation challenges co-presented by Venturespring and IBM within the last year. Interested in building your own app?
