The re-imagined festival will return this year, offering a convergence of tech, music and comedy events. Gigglebyte is the brainchild of Upstream, the growth partnership helping to make Hammersmith and Fulham the best place to live, work and play.

The festival, which is aimed at residents, entrepreneurs, start-ups and those working in the tech and creative sectors, has been launched in a bid to cement the borough’s spot as a leading tech and creative hub in London following the launch of the council’s industrial strategy last summer which aimed to make the borough the best place to do business in Europe.

Gigglebyte has been created to harness the power of comedy and humour to inspire and support entrepreneurs. In particular, Upstream hope that the festival will help to tackle sexism in start-up investment. The festival will be offering female entrepreneurs the opportunity to enrol in stand-up comedy lessons, with business and humour coach Sarah Archer, as a way of improving their investor pitching.

Following the workshop, female entrepreneurs will pitch to a panel for the chance to win a top prize that includes cash and 6 months of mentoring from NatWest. The panel of judges will include Kate Newhouse, CEO of venture builders Blenheim Chalcot, Chris Corbishley of Forward Partners and Nick Howe of NatWest.

Building on the success of the Shepherds Bush Comedy Festival, which featured the likes of Tim Key, Joe Lycett and the Guilty Feminist, the festival will play host to some of the biggest names in UK comedy including James Acaster, Tim Key, Jessie Cave, Mark Watson and Nina Conti before they head to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival later this summer.
